Presence Group Folks, 

Today we talked a bit about Tattoos on the Heart, and made some future plans.  

• We’ll finish Tattoos on the Heart during December and discuss the finished book when we get back to regular meetings on January 6th.
• Our next book will be the Richard Rohr book, Everything Belongs:  The Gift of Contemplative Prayer (Amazon) and here for the Goodreads blurb.
• Please begin reading it during December, discussion will begin also on January 6th.  
• Remember we will not meet Sunday’s in December.  

Everyone is enjoying reading Tattoos on the Heart.  Positive comments were made on some of the vignettes; however we agreed, due to the vignette form, we’re finding it difficult to discuss.   

 

 

 

 

 

October 25, 2015 The Dance of Personality

We continue to discuss the book Living Presence:  A Sufi Way to Mindfulness and the Essential Self, by Kabir Edmund Helminski.

10/25/15 The Dance of Personality — We talked about the shades of our personalities that shift and change hues according to the people we are with and the culture(s) we’ve grown up in.  It was noted that Jesus associated with all sorts of people on the margins of society and yet he was solidly who he was.  Mindful and in full awareness of his Essential Self.

It was noted also that the Biblical translation from the Greek into English that “the meek shall inherit the earth” would better be translated as “the gentle will inherit the earth.”  In Greek gentle also has the meaning of “well trained”.

The last paragraph of the chapter —

“The personality can either serve as the reflecting lamp of our Essence–magnifying or focusing the light of the soul–or be the bushel that hides that light.  Every human being carries a seed of the Essence that is meant to be actualized.  This Essence has no limits.  Limits are imposed only by the condition of the vehicle that carries it.”

February 22nd Meeting Cancelled

Members wish to attend the Integrity Meeting in Havens Center with Bishop Doyle Sunday afternoon, so The Presence Group regular meeting is cancelled for Sunday Feb. 22, 2015.

Next meeting, Sunday, March 1st, regular time 1:00 p.m. in the Library.
